PETER HOW KIAN HUAT

As a youth, Peter How represented his constitutuency and school in racquet/paddle sports. He was introduced to Pickleball in 1996 by a senior citizen while playing table tennis in MacPherson Community Club, and became totally addicted and played almost daily. With his strong background in racquet sports, Peter was a prominent figure in the local Pickleball Tournament scene, and even successfully won the Bronze medal in the 2018 Taiwan International Pickleball Open Singles Tournament. Peter How hopes our sport can be further popularised, he coaches at all levels and volunteers with SPA to do introductions and try out in schools and clubs. He is a Master Coach and Coach Developer with SPA.

CHONG SIEW TAN

Chong Siew Tan, was introduced to Pickleball by none other than couple Lim Chee Aun and Ann Ng in 1997 when he passed by Tampines West Community Club while on the way home. He was intrigued by the tok-tok-tok sound emerging from the courts and went in for a peek. Then already an avid racquet sportsman, he was passed a wooden paddle by Chee Aun, and taught a few strokes. Fast forward to more than 20 years later, Siew Tan remained a prominent figure and familiar face in the local Pickleball tournament scene. Siew Tan hopes to share his passion and experience to develop the new generation of players as a Coach, as well as give back to the community as a Tournament Official. Siew Tan is a Master Coach and Coach Developer with SPA.

David Teo is considered one of the pioneer players of Pickleball in Singapore. Staying just across the road, David was introduced to Pickleball from the late Bobby Heng in 1990 at Kolam Ayer Community Club. Prior to playing Pickleball, David plays tennis and golf to keep fit. David found many tennis strokes very relevant in Pickleball and soon realised Pickleball is a good social gathering for both genders, and all ages. As a coach, David feels strongly that the more rallies a player can sustain in the sport, the more fun and enjoyable it becomes, and consequently the more sustainable the sport becomes. He is particular on the correct footwork to bring the player to the best position to deliver the hits, quoting a youth who played with David, "He is damn agile for a 70 year old!" As a coach, David hopes to share his experience and love for the game, to encourage the younger generation to learn this sport, improve friendship, respect for each other and sportsmanship. David is a Coach under SPA.

DAVID TEO SIONG BOO

Fong Meng used to keep an active lifestyle by jogging and doing brisk walking, and when she started to find it monotonous, she visited a Community Club in search of any new activities, where she chanced upon Pickleball, and since 2010, Pickleball continues to be a big part of her daily routine. Fong Meng not only coaches Pickleball, she also regularly commits to introducing the sport to fresh groups and players, as well as gives back to the community by volunteering as an Official in our many national level tournaments. Fong Meng is a Master Coach and Coach Developer with SPA.

As a coach, Ee Kiong wishes to bring the benefits of sports to everyone - children, youths, adults, seniors. To share the joy in playing sports, the effort of pursuing goals and targets, and the sense of satisfaction upon achievement. Diligence, perseverance, and sportsmanship are values dear to him, and he hopes to inspire athletes to realise that these are very important attributes even in daily life. He hopes that under his training, athletes will improve both technically and socially, and understand that sports is not all about winning. As a coach, he constantly researches to find interesting and engaging ways to explain and teach Pickleball effectively, especially to kids and beginners with little prior sports experience. He strives to coach enthusiastically, be a welcoming and encouraging mentor, committed to inspire athletes morally, socially and to give their best in everything they do.

Coaching had never been an intentional pursuit. Chancing on the sport of Pickleball, led Fione to appreciate the importance of sportsmanship and integrity above technical competence. Fione hopes to share sporting values to the coming generations of athletes and help her athletes understand the values of diligence and perseverance, and that performance is not a definite outcome but one that can be improved with effort, resilience and innovation. She wants athletes and players to learn through fun and enjoyment, to see failure as also a learning opportunity and let their natural passion for sports arise - to bring the happiness from sport participation into their lives. As a coach, she strives to be patient, fair and to conduct herself with integrity, to be an example to her athletes and instill the right values into their everyday lives. Finally to foster a relationship that is both of a coach and a friend.

Fred believes that sports should be fun and enjoyable to be an activity for life. High level excellence and to play competitively is a bonus. Fred is committed to imparting his knowledge and experience, to ensure his athletes have the proper techniques to play well and stay injury-free. His athletes can always expect fun, engaging and exciting lessons, where they will be challenged while learning new skills. His objectives are simple - to teach resilience, discipline, respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship through sports. He believes building the character of the athlete is just as important honing their skills.
